Dear readers,
It’s that time of year again – the end of school. While we’re sad that the year is coming to an end, we’re proud of all that the Bi-Line has accomplished this year, and we wanted to leave you with some words of advice while also highlighting some of our favorite memories as the Editors-in-Chief of Westminster’s premier student-run newspaper.
To start off, we wanted to offer some parting words that we hope will help the Class of ’26 navigate the murky waters of college applications. First, and most important, don’t compare yourself with the college results of your peers. As difficult as the whole process is, comparison is the killer of joy, and the more you think about what others are doing, the less you will appreciate what you have done in your life. Second, and we know this is going to be annoying, but apply to as many colleges as you can. As much as it hurts to hear, many of the schools you apply to will reject your application, but that’s an experience everyone will go through. Finally, start early. Take it from someone who wrote all of their essays at the last minute, you do not want to find yourself panicking about writing an essay about creating your own Fermi equation (pro tip: if that sounds terrible to you, don’t apply to UChicago).
Moving on to the social part of senior year, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL JAMAICA TO SOCIALIZE WITH PEOPLE. Seriously, we all hear about how Jamaica brings everyone together (really it’s not until the last week of school), but you do not need to let that happen. Spend time on Spatio (wish we could’ve done that…), branch out from your friend group, and make an effort to get to know everyone in your class.
To any underclassmen reading this, the best piece of advice we can give you is join the Bi-Line. Speaking of the Bi-Line, we want to congratulate the Editors-in-Chief for next year: Chris Qin and Sarah Wang! We know that they will do great things with the Bi-Line, and we can’t wait to see how the newspaper thrives while we’re in college.
Thank you to everyone who has made the Bi-Line what it is, especially Mrs. Darling and Dr. Combest! Without their guidance, we’re not sure if the Bi-Line would still be functional, and we are so excited to welcome Mr.Thomas to the staff next year.
Your Editors-in-Chief,
Ayan Chaganthi and Phoebe Clayton
